Orange Marmalade Aperitif

Saturday, November 28, 2015

I was once a professional bartender, and now I like to make drinks at home. I call it #concocktailing. When my cousin invited us to Thanksgiving dinner, she tasked me with an aperitif. I took my responsibility seriously, and I came up with this.

For one:

1 barspoon (scant teaspoon) orange marmalade — homemade if possible
50 ml Hendricks gin
5 ml Campari
15 ml fresh lime juice
1-2 dashes Fee Bros orange bitters
twist of orange peel

Put marmalade in a bar shaker and mash with the barspoon to pulverize. Add ice, then other ingredients except orange peel. Stir well, then strain into a stem glass and add peel.

For a crowd:

75 ml orange marmalade
750 ml Hendricks gin
75 ml Campari
225 ml fresh lime juice
10 ml Fee Bros orange bitters
(I used pomegranate seeds for garnish)

Mash orange marmalade and add other ingredients (except garnish) in a large container. Chill well. Pour into stem glasses and garnish. (A little cracked ice in the glass would be fine. These were quite potent! but delicious.)
